As a Structural Team Lead at GRIT Engineering, you’ll lead the delivery of high‑quality structural engineering work across new and existing assets - design, analysis, and integrity assessments. This is a senior role for someone who backs their judgement, communicates clearly, and sets the standard for quality and delivery.

You’ll work closely with our Technical Director, Project Managers and leadership team, and you’ll be the person the structural team can lean on for direction, review, and support.

You’ll also be a key contact for clients - practical, straight up, and focused on fit‑for‑purpose outcomes.

GRIT exists to engineer a better way - smart, practical solutions that add value and stand up in the real world. We challenge assumptions when it matters, we work as one team, and we walk the talk.

The Challenge:

  • Lead GRIT’s structural deliverables across projects, with strong technical oversight.

  • Set and maintain high quality standards - clear calculations, tidy reporting and solid peer review.

  • Support and mentor engineers, helping lift capability across the team.

  • Work closely with Project Managers to deliver on scope, programme and budget.

  • Build trusted relationships with clients and key stakeholders.

  • Spot issues early and use sound engineering judgement to work through them with clients and project teams.

  • Contribute to proposals, resourcing decisions and improving how we work.

  • Champion health, safety and integrity - for yourself and the team.

Your Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering.

  • Chartered Professional Engineer, or actively working towards registration.

  • 8+ years’ structural engineering experience, with strong New Zealand experience.

  • Confident across steel and concrete design and NZ standards (NZS 1170 / 3101 / 3404).

  • Strong technical review skills.

  • Clear, practical communication skills, including explaining technical issues to non‑technical audiences.

  • Comfortable leading people, giving direction and supporting others to grow.

  • Commercially aware and practical in how you approach project delivery.

  • A no‑BS, team‑first approach - and a sense of humour.

Location: Auckland preferred, but we’re open to Whangārei, Christchurch, Dunedin or remote for the right person.
