As a Structural Team Lead at GRIT Engineering, you’ll lead the delivery of high‑quality structural engineering work across new and existing assets - design, analysis, and integrity assessments. This is a senior role for someone who backs their judgement, communicates clearly, and sets the standard for quality and delivery.
You’ll work closely with our Technical Director, Project Managers and leadership team, and you’ll be the person the structural team can lean on for direction, review, and support.
You’ll also be a key contact for clients - practical, straight up, and focused on fit‑for‑purpose outcomes.
GRIT exists to engineer a better way - smart, practical solutions that add value and stand up in the real world. We challenge assumptions when it matters, we work as one team, and we walk the talk.
The Challenge:
Complete whole-of-asset condition assessments across industrial plant and equipment, infrastructure assets and brownfield sites, including bridges, wharves and water infrastructure.
Apply objective thinking, root cause analysis and asset lifecycle thinking to turn site observations into practical, defensible recommendations.
Turn observations into clear findings and reports that stand up to scrutiny.
Explain risk and its implications clearly to clients and key stakeholders.
Support incident and failure investigations with field-based insight.
Develop maintenance scopes, specifications and QA requirements, and contribute to estimates and proposals as needed.
Act as a key team member on asset integrity and inspection projects, including oversight of HSE, quality, schedule and cost.
Champion health, safety and professionalism - for yourself and the team.
Your Skills:
A relevant diploma or engineering qualification, or a relevant trade background. Strong practical experience is essential.
Hands-on experience in asset integrity inspections or assessments.
Ability to produce inspection reports that stand up to scrutiny.
Clear communication skills, including explaining complex information in simple terms.
Comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with project teams. Project engineering or coordination experience is an advantage.
AMPP/NACE Coating Inspector certification (Level 1, 2 or 3) or equivalent is highly regarded, but not essential.
A current driver licence.
A curious, coachable approach - and the drive to absorb technical knowledge quickly.
Location: Auckland, with travel across the Auckland region and occasional national travel.
