Erik Thomson

Originally from the UK, Erik began his career in the oil and gas sector there, before gaining global experience on heavy industrial and infrastructure projects up to £1bn in value. He moved to New Zealand in 2017 and brings a sharp, solutions-focused mindset to every project.

Erik doesn’t shy away from complexity - he thrives on it. He’s known for questioning assumptions and bringing fresh thinking to the table, with a strong drive to deliver practical, fit-for-purpose solutions that balance economic and environmental outcomes.

He values the variety of work at GRIT and the energy of a team he describes as talented, focused and fun. A big believer in collaboration, Erik actively mentors others in Safety in Design and fosters a work culture where ideas and knowledge are freely shared.

Outside work, he’s usually on the football pitch or golf course - as much for the camaraderie as the competition.
