Josh Croucher
Project Engineer
Josh Croucher came to engineering consultancy the hard way - through years of hands-on work in heavy civil infrastructure, progressing from a graduate role to Senior Site Engineer on large, complex projects. That construction background is something he brings with him every day, and it shows in how he works.
After completing a NZ Diploma in Engineering (Civil) at Otago Polytechnic in 2019, Josh made a deliberate move into consultancy to develop his technical capability and broaden his career. He joined DCL Consulting in March 2025, and has been building on his construction foundation with skills in structural design, bridge inspection, construction monitoring, and reporting.
At DCL GRIT, Josh works across inspection, assessment, and project delivery - conducting field inspections and condition assessments, preparing technical documentation, and supporting design development and quality assurance. He's particularly valued for bridging the gap between site and office: understanding how structures actually perform in the real world, and translating that into practical, well-considered engineering outcomes.
Among the work he's most proud of: developing the design of a bridge pier jacking solution, contributing to bridge refurbishment design work, and inspecting historic railway structures for Dunedin Railways - projects where practical construction knowledge and careful engineering judgement need to work together.
Challenge is the GRIT value that resonates most with Josh - the deliberate push outside the comfort zone, the willingness to question how things are done, and the drive to apply real-world experience to deliver better outcomes.
Outside of work, Josh is in full family mode - chasing a one-year-old around, watching the rugby, getting outdoors for walks and camping, and fitting in DIY projects when he can.
