Rodrigo Winkler

Structural Team Lead
BEng (Civil & Structural), CPEng, IntPE(NZ)

As Team Lead at GRIT, Rodrigo Winkler is responsible for the delivery of the team's structural engineering projects, making sure the work is completed safely, on time, and to a high technical standard. He manages the team's resourcing, balancing workloads and matching people to the right projects, while still providing technical input on complex structural work and mentoring the engineers coming through the ranks.

Rodrigo started his engineering career as a graduate in 2003, working across the industrial and oil and gas sectors on a range of challenging projects around New Zealand, including the lift of what was, at the time, the largest mobile crane ever lifted onto an offshore platform. He then moved to an Auckland firm leading a team who carried out seismic assessments of existing structures, which broadened his experience across a different range of projects and clients. He holds a Bachelor in Civil and Structural Engineering (Chile), and is CPEng and Int(PE) NZ registered.

Rodrigo joined GRIT already knowing several members of the team from earlier in his career, and it felt like a natural fit from day one. If pushed to pick a favourite GRIT value he'll go with Authenticity, though he says they're all connected, and that trust is built through honest, straightforward communication. Outside work he's usually got a camera in hand, is out on a snowboard, or trying a new recipe in the kitchen, and when he's not travelling he's probably planning the next trip.
